Oof, right in the childhood
Marnie and Kal’s relationship in Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge definitely didn’t end well. Once you betray your crush and try destroying everyone she loves before taking over the world, it’s safe to say that whirlwind romance is D.O.A.
Last fall, star Daniel Kountz (Kal) stepped back into his iconic Disney Channel role in Kimberly J. Brown (Marnie)’s film, Realm Are They Now?. The short revealed what happened to Kal after he vanished at the end of Halloweentown II: He went to magic rehab.
Kountz and Brown teamed up again Thursday (July 20) for a new project that’s slightly NSFD (not safe for Disney). Parodying the State Farm commercials, Brown plays Melissa, a girl constantly asking State Farm representative Christy (Ashley Crenshaw) for help with the new man in her life (Kountz).
While the short is mostly G-rated, there’s a scene at the end that might just shatter your childhood. As Kountz’s character starts going downtown, Christy pops up and offers Melissa an unsolicited condom. See, this was the relationship Marnie and Kal could’ve had, had Kal not possessed serious daddy issues and tried to ruin the Cromwell line.
Fingers crossed Brown and Kountz keep working together on future projects, because you can tell they’re still good friends. Kountz told me during our interview last year he and Brown continued to stay in touch for years after filming their DCOM. These fun reunion videos almost make up for Disney recasting Brown in Return to Halloweentown. So grab your pointy witch hat and oversized spell book and check out the hilarious video below.
